Since broadband was launched in the UK it has been a challenge to find a cost effective way to provide Internet access to people living in areas where the existing telephone network is poor or non-existent and therefore unable to support good quality DSL services.
UK Broadband partners with suppliers of services to these areas by allowing access to our licensed WiMAX spectrum. These partners are specialist wireless companies and customer focused ISP's that often have expert knowledge of available funding for such projects.
Whilst some success has already been achieved with unlicensed wireless solutions their restricted power and susceptibility to interference mean coverage is limited and finding a cost-effective design can be challenging.
UK Broadband's licensed spectrum allows for a bigger footprint per site and global volumes for 3.5GHz devices mean customer equipment prices are low. Whilst most not-spots are most economically served with outdoor modems we can also offer indoor modems, USB dongles and mobile coverage where appropriate.
Organised communities and Local Authorities can gain access to telecommunications operator grade services using our licensed spectrum. This offers the ability to run a number of discrete applications, allowing aggregation of multiple services onto the wireless network, making the use of WiMAX a viable option with the costs being shared across both public and private sectors.
